First impressions can be deceiving. At the very beginning Fez pretends to be a classic and vibrant two-dimensional platformer in which two-dimensional white men live in their two-dimensional houses, going about their two-dimensional affairs and at the same time exploring their flat world. For everyone and everything there is only one flat dimension, including for the main character of the game. But very soon he will have to look at his world from completely different angles and go on a journey in order to save this world, which has recently revealed its new sides to him.
IN Fez‚e you play for Gomez, a white man who, one sunny and pixelated day, receives a gift from his grandfather – a fez. The gift turns out to be not simple and the little hat opens the hero to the third dimension of his world. A real miracle – now you can look at the two-dimensional world from different, previously unseen sides! And everything would be fine, but something goes wrong and a catastrophe occurs on the scale of glitches and system failures… DOS screen and restarting the game – the journey has begun.
peace in Fez looks like a web, https://casobet-casino.uk/bonus/ where all locations are connected to each other by a series of doors. When we open a new door, we are almost immediately transported to another location, discovering this world more and more. Thanks to the magic header, each level in the game can be scrolled left and right, revealing four sides of each level with a specific set of objects that allow the player to move further through the level, while Gomez remains a 2D sprite, and the level, after completing its rotation, becomes flat again.
IN Fez objects that were not previously connected with each other become, in the literal sense, your path on the path to victory. Two separate ladders, standing at a decent distance from each other, at a certain angle become one large ladder, which can be easily climbed. This works with other items too. With the new twist, two platforms standing on almost different corners of the level are placed so close that you can easily jump from one platform to another. There are similar tasks at every level. You just need to turn it correctly and move on.
There are practically no tutorials or any instructions in the game. "This is the world and you can spin it. And here are the fragments of the cube – they need to be collected. I understand everything? Now act!».
In order to come to the right solution to the problem, the player must constantly experiment.
There are no enemies in the game, the main character is immediately revived after an unsuccessful jump or fall, and no one will force you to quickly complete the level further – just act as you see fit. The game is waiting for you to open it. And you can do it at the pace you want.
Fez simple and does not interfere with enjoying the process. The game never feels too difficult to complete, despite the rather complex design of each of its levels. As a result, after the next fragment of the cube is assembled, an amazing feeling of small victory comes over you, which pushes you further and further to go through the game and open more and more doors. And with every minute of play you realize that this game is unique. Minimalist, bright and smart.
This whole adventure is wrapped in a beautiful presentation of an “8-bit” world and a soundtrack that completely immerses you in this small, wonderful, pixelated world. And unlike many indie games that try to be "old school" games, Fez – is her. Even the feeling of passing Fez‚and the same as it was once upon a time when playing games on NES or on Mega Drive. A forgotten feeling that suddenly decided to make itself known again.
Great little game.
