These contacts provide guidance for obtaining assistance during emergencies from emergency services organizations and local governments. If there were to be an emergency within our facility, that facility would call 911 for emergency assistance. Response protocols are identified in the Building-level Emergency Response Plans in the ICS format along with definitions of ICS Roles and Responsibilities. School District building administrators will be required to notify parents/guardians of upcoming drills. During all lockdown drills, the district’s manual silent notification system will be tested.
Safe and supportive schools are central to student success. Teachers will provide aid students in this mode of instruction through asynchronous and synchronous methods outlined above. The duration of these synchronous connections depends on the grade level and daily instructional plan but should be the primary mode of instruction and substantial enough to guide learning. Synchronous “Live” Instruction – Using Google Meet along with other digital platforms, teachers will deliver real time instruction to a full group or subset of students.
The Emergency Remote Instruction Plan must include the methods that the school district will ensure the availability of devices; internet access; provision of special education and related services for students with disabilities; the expectations for time spent in different remote modalities. The district will assist in coordinating with other area agencies and schools to ensure that adequate school counseling services are available post incident for staff, students and families. Coordinators shall be responsible for answering questions from students, faculty, staff, and parents or legal guardians of students regarding identified public health emergencies and New Jersey ARP ESSER Funding Information plans implemented by the school.
In addition, such exercises cannot include students without written consent from parents or persons in parental relation. New employees hired after the start of the school year receive this training within 30 days of hire or as part of the district’s existing new hire training program, whichever is sooner. Through ICS, the procedures to coordinate the use of school district resources and the workforce during emergencies are clearly defined. The district has identified various district resources that may be available for use during an emergency, including the identification of personnel, equipment, and shelters. Finally, consultants emphasized the importance of identifying effective practices for training school personnel on how to support students with ESN. Consultants also agreed that future research is needed to examine evaluation tools used by schools to determine how students with ESN are included in SWPBIS evaluation and data systems. In another example, Schelling and Harris (2016) used an adapted version of the PBIS Self-Assessment Survey (SAS) to determine which components of SWPBIS were implemented with fidelity in schools serving students with ESN.
At the direction of the Board of Education, the School Superintendent appointed a District-wide School Safety Team and charged it with the development and maintenance of the District-wide School Safety Plan. Niskayuna Central School District has designated the Superintendent of Schools as the district’s Chief Emergency Officer (CEO). It also means preventing and eliminating discrimination in the administration of student discipline.
